Sickle Cell of Eastern Shore
June 22 @ 9:00 am - 2:00 pm

For residents of the Eastern Shore of Maryland living with Sickle Cell Disease (SCD), support is primarily coordinated through specialized local non-profits and regional health systems. While the region has a high rate of SCD, it often faces a “service gap” due to its rural population.
Eastern Shore of Maryland Sickle Cell Disease Association (ESMSCDA): Based in Salisbury, this organization was founded by Mashonda Ward to address the lack of local resources. They provide:
-
- Advocacy & Support: Identifying service gaps and providing emergency financial assistance for medical or utility bills through partnerships with the Community Foundation of the Eastern Shore.
- Community Events: They host the Annual Sickle Cell Awareness Month Walk in September at the Centre at Salisbury and a charity golf tournament in June.
